On the 16th April we headed North to Three Sisters Circuit in Wigan for the first competitive outing in the Rymax Lubricants LS3 Z4 of 2021 for Round 1 of the UK Drift Championship!
On Friday we took full advantage of the open practice session completing around 60 laps to get the car dialled in and ready for action! The Accelera 651 Sport XTRA’s were up to the challenge and allowed us to complete around 12 laps per set!
Saturday came around and we supported our crew member Sam Simcox in Pro 2 in his first ever competitive drifting event! He made his way through to the Top 32 battles and absolutely smashed it, considering this was his competitive debut!
Sunday… Pro Day! With a few steering niggles quickly sorted throughout practice thanks to the hard work of our crew! We completed a good amount of laps, we were ready!
Qualifying Run 1, Adam put in a banker run, scoring a 74.7 from the judges put him in the mix for the Top 32 Battles! On to Run 2, Adam pushed the Z4 on the Acceleras and improved his score to 78, which was enough to qualify 8th in the pack and ready for the Top 32 Battles!
Battle 1 (Top 32): V Chrissy Nailen, Adam pushed the NHP Motorsport E92 2JZ of Chrissy in a close battle, but Adam was the victor and moving on to Top 16 to take on Japspeed Driver and old friend, Paul ‘Smokey’ Smith in his GT86!
Battle 2: (Top 16): V Paul Smith, this has to be one of the closest fought battles of the whole weekend and after both Lead and Chase runs by the pair, the judges couldn’t split them sending them for a One More Time… so back to the pits for fuel and tyres!
Battle 3: (Top 16) OMT: From the startline, the narrowest of margins separated the pair, and through both runs, there was only a hair in it. After a long time of judges deliberation the win was handed to Paul ‘Smokey’ Smith due to having just “put more in the drift piggy bank”. So, Adam’s weekend came to an end and it was time to watch the rest of the day unfold.
“I have had a great weekend here at UKDC, the car performed flawlessly for the entire weekend, and I would like to thank my sponsors for their continued support into the 2021 Season. Roll on Round 1 of the British Drift Championship.” – Adam Simmons – Rymax Lubricants Racing Team UK Driver
Until next time, stay safe and keep on drifting!
