Last weekend we competed in the first ever round of the MSUK Drift Pro Championship at Brands Hatch Circuit. Alongside Tunerfest South, Time Attack, TCR UK and VW Cup, bringing drifting to the forefront of UK Motorsport.
The Pre-Event on the Saturday was awesome for us as I got to compete in a Gymkhana Style event called “Driftkhana” for the very first time getting in some practice runs for the event on Sunday! It was a very different experience with the long bonnet of the LSZ4!
Then onto the drifting…
The track layout utilised the Indy layout of Brands Hatch, with the startline leading on to Graham Hill Bend leading onto Cooper Straight and initiating into Surtees and full power out wide round Mclaren and Clark Curve to take us over the finish line!
I cannot stress it enough, that this event wasn’t for the faint hearted and we were up against an invited list of drivers comprising of some of the best in the UK, while controlling entry speeds of over 100mph!
On Saturday, with some strong runs in qualifying, I qualified 6th overall and went into the battles feeling confident. Making my way through to the Top 8 Battles against Japspeed Driver Rob Black.
On Sunday in Driftkhana I finished in 7th Overall, which I was really pleased with considering this was the first time I have driven in this discipline.
The main event.. MSUK Drift Pro was go! But sadly due to the unpredictable weather I was unable to dial in the line and didn’t qualify for the battles.
Even though the Sunday didn’t go our way, as I qualified 17th missing out on the Top 16 Battles, it was great representing the Rymax Racing Team alongside my teammate Ian Bizz Phillips who went on to Top 16 against Ollie Evans!
